Sinclair to Offer Up Right Wing Halftime Show
/It seems sort of like a “woke” move by Sinclair.
In an unprecedented move for Super Bowl Sunday, Sinclair Broadcast Group is set to compete against itself, offering a conservative alternative to the official halftime show that will pit its digital streaming platforms directly against its own network affiliates.
While NBC and Peacock broadcast the official Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, Sinclair will launch a counter-programming offensive.
The media giant plans to stream Turning Point USA’s "All American Halftime Show" on its digital networks, Charge!and the National News Desk. Headlined by Kid Rock, the event is marketed as a patriotic alternative and will feature supporting performances from country artists Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett.
It’s more about being racist and not patriotic, just my opinion.
The strategy creates a bizarre broadcasting paradox: Sinclair is essentially cannibalizing its own audience.
Sinclair owns and operates over 20 NBC affiliates nationwide. These stations rely on the massive viewership of the official Super Bowl broadcast—and the lucrative halftime commercial blocks—for revenue.
By urging viewers to switch away from NBC during halftime to watch Kid Rock on its digital streams, Sinclair is actively directing eyeballs away from its own premium broadcast real estate.
