3 and Out in Sacto

After three years of reporting from California’s capital, Tori Apodaca has announced her departure from KOVR/KMAX—stations owned and operated by CBS News and Stations. Apodaca, an Orange County native who has become a staple of Sacramento’s airwaves, shared the news via Instagram on Friday, marking her final day at the station. While her next destination remains under wraps—a common practice in the industry due to contractual non-compete clauses—her exit follows a familiar trajectory for high-performing journalists in mid-to-large markets eyeing national or top-tier opportunities.

During her tenure at the CBS-owned station, Apodaca served as the primary reporter for Sacramento County, carving out a niche for herself through investigative and "watchdog" style journalism.

"I was so humbled to serve as ‘your reporter covering Sacramento County’—getting answers and holding the powerful accountable," Apodaca posted. "Excited to share what’s next soon."

Apodaca’s journey reflects the "climb" typical of the broadcast industry. She began her career at KHSL-TV in Chico, California, before making the jump to Sacramento. In her farewell message, she reflected on the full-circle moment of joining the very station she used to watch as an entry-level reporter.

"I feel nothing but gratitude for the three years I spent here," she added, thanking both the behind-the-scenes photography teams and the local community for their trust.

Apodaca joins a growing list of West Coast talent transitioning toward new horizons.
