Hannity Mum on Colbert

For decades, the gospel according to right-wing radio giants like Sean Hannity and the late Rush Limbaugh was simple: the government has no business in the broadcast booth. They built their brands railing against the "Fairness Doctrine" and the specter of "equal time" enforcement, characterizing them as government speech policing that threatened the very livelihood of conservative media.

Yet, when that exact scenario played out this week at CBS, Hannity’s principled stance on government non-interference vanished.

When CBS blinked at pressure from the FCC—forcing Stephen Colbert to cancel a scheduled appearance by Texas state representative and Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico—Hannity remained silent on the issue. It appears the Fox News host is willing to overlook government overreach when it benefits the agenda, just as his puppeteer Donald Trump would want.

The silence stands in stark contrast to Hannity's own words from just last month. When asked by the L.A. Times about FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr's push for stricter equal-time enforcement, Hannity reverted to his classic libertarian refrain: "We need less government regulation and more freedom. Let the American people decide where to get their information from without any government interference."

Proving that Hannity only stands for something it it benefits him.
