The Houston Chronicle has written about how the talent at KRIV are directing, producing, audio, and anchoring their own newscasts.

The quote that stands out in the story, comes from KHOU Reporter Deevon Rahming who said, "This is actually absurd, especially in the nation's 6th largest news market”. KDFW (Dallas) consumer reporter Steve Noviello nailed it, "Why aren't people watching like they used to? Because we don't deliver the same product that we used to," Noviello wrote, arguing that the "craft" of storytelling is disappearing.

There is no doubt that the product being sent out to viewers is diminished. in 2026, the newscast being served up to viewers is much worse that what they were presented with in 1996. Yet, the leaders in the TV industry still wonder where have the viewers gone?

In watching the KRIV Anchors do the work on many, former KRIV meteorologist Lena Dziechowski said, "I'm sorry, WHAT? This is… quite literally insane."

But, KRIV Anchor Caroline Collins is on board with the jack of all trades, master on none concept. "This is the way of the future," Collins said. "I'm glad I'm getting trained on it, and I'm going to know how to do this."

There are many in the business who disagree.

The newscasts are akin to a 13 year old broadcasting a live stream of them playing video games from their mom’s basement.

The difference is the 13 year’s job is not to inform the public of what is happening in the world.
