The Future of the 1st Amendment
/What the Supreme Court does or does not do, could impact Journalism and change the 1st Amendment.
Fox News legal analyst and GW Law Professor Jonathan Turley wrote an opinion piece for The Hill.
In it, he argued that the Supreme Court should hear journalist Catherine Herridge’s case to safeguard confidential sources and press freedom, warning that the outcome could set a precedent that undermines investigative journalism by making it easier to compel reporters to reveal their sources.
Fox News has also petitioned for the Supreme Court to hear the appeal of Herridge case and overturn a civil contempt order that previously carried daily fines of $800.
“Fox News has remained steadfast in its support of Catherine Herridge and First Amendment protections, including protecting the confidentiality of journalistic sourcing,” the network said it a statement to FTVLive.
