Jury Hands Nexstar a Multi-Million Dollar Reality Check
/Remember the massive uproar back in 2023 when a controversial internal memo at Nexstar’s WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids ordered staff to dial back on Gay Pride Month coverage because it was allegedly ticking off viewers? FTVLive was all over that dumpster fire from day one.
Well, the fallout just got a whole lot more expensive for corporate broadcasting.
A jury has awarded a massive $4 million to the two former WOOD news managers Amy Fox and Stanton Tang, who were unceremoniously canned in the wake of the scandal. The pair subsequently hit Nexstar with a defamation and wrongful fallout lawsuit, arguing that corporate hung them out to dry and painted them as scapegoats while publicly distorting the circumstances of their departures.
As the MLive report highlights, the legal battle even brought attention back to industry watchdog outlets like FTVLive for breaking and tracking the toxic behind-the-scenes drama that Nexstar scrambled so desperately to contain.
Corporate tried to spin it, but a jury just decided that hanging your newsroom managers out to dry carries a multi-million dollar price tag.
Another courtroom loss for Nexstar.
They seem to be piling up lately.
