Fox O&O Passes Scam onto Viewers

Late last month, Fox-owned KDFW (Dallas) did a story about a GoFundMe page set up for an elderly couple.

The story claimed that the 81-year-old husband had “been returning lost luggage to make money to support his wife's cancer treatment.”

The GoFundMe page had brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That is, until the page was shutdown, due to violating the GoFundMe rules.

The station later reported “that the organizer, who claimed to be a neighbor, was in fact his daughter.”

The station reports that “GoFundMe said they received a tip on Sept. 25 questioning the identity of the woman running the campaign, who had identified herself only as a neighbor named "Erin Howell."

The company’s Trust & Safety team opened an investigation and called "Howell" on a recorded line. When asked directly whether Don and Josephine were her parents, she confirmed they are, and admitted her true identity is Amy Johnson.”

Johnson also admitted to posting the video that she claimed was taken from a neighbors door camera, but was actually shot by her. She told KDFW that her father really does deliver luggage and her mom really has cancer. The daughter said that she would provide documentation, but never did.

Just asking, but isn’t this the stuff (documentation) that KDFW should have requested when they first did the story?
