Nexstar Station Goes Dark, Due to Weather

At one of the most important times that viewers turn to TV news, this Nexstar station was not there.

As Isaias made its way on shore, Nexstar’s WHNT (Huntsville, Alabama) was off the air.

The station posted:

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – News 19 is experiencing technical difficulties due to weather conditions in the area.

For now, we are unable to broadcast our newscasts on WHNT. We are working hard to get back on air as soon as possible.

In the meantime, visit our website for any breaking news. Also, tune in to our streaming app, WHNT 19+, whnt.com, and our Facebook page for all the latest headlines on Friday!

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Word is that it was a lightning strike that hit the building, knocking the station out.

This is the time when the viewers need you most! This is why TV stations pay money for backup systems, generators, transmitters, and anything else that will keep them on the air.

My guess is that Nexstar didn’t want to spend the money to make sure that happened.
