New Newscast to Launch in Atlanta

CBS has officially launched a morning news block at its owned-and-operated station in Atlanta (WUPA), intensifying competition in the nation’s sixth-largest media market. The new one-hour program, titled CBS News Atlanta Mornings, serves as the latest step in a broader capital and editorial investment by CBS Stations to establish a robust news presence at the outlet.

The broadcast creates a new local entry against entrenched legacy competitors by promising a "hyper-local," county-by-county coverage strategy. The format will heavily utilize the station's new AR/VR studio—the ninth of its kind within the CBS Station group—to present data and weather in an immersive format. The show will be fronted by anchor Jobina Fortson-Evans, traffic anchor Alexa Liacko, and meteorologist Troy Bridges, with Kaley Fedko reporting from the field. Management has indicated that additional contributors, including La’Tasha Givens and Jamal Goss, are slated to join the rotation in the coming weeks.

Station President and General Manager Tom Canedo stated the goal is to pair neighborhood-level reporting with broader CBS News resources. To that end, the show’s format will include a "monitor look" incorporating live feeds from CBS bureaus and other O&O stations nationwide, visually reinforcing the station’s network alignment.
