History Repeats Itself...

When Jimmy Kimmel made his return to ABC’s late night, he started off by saying, “As I was saying….”

While many thought it was a funny line, there was some history to his comment.

On February 11, 1960, Jack Paar walked off The Tonight Show after NBC censors edited out a segment he had taped the night before. He left his co-host, Hugh Downs, to continue the show without him. Paar was upset about the network's censorship of a joke he had told. His departure was unexpected and emotional, and it left a lasting impact on television history.
