Remember When They Were Against It?
/Do you remember when many of the hosts at Fox News were speaking out against the cancel culture.
In the charged aftermath of the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a number of his prominent supporters are adopting a tactic they once vehemently condemned: cancel culture. Figures on the political right are now leading a widespread campaign to identify and seek the termination of individuals who posted celebratory or callous remarks about Kirk's death on social media, sparking a fierce debate about hypocrisy and the weaponization of outrage.
Fox News host Jesse Watters made several provocative statements on air. "We’re gonna avenge Charlie’s death," Watters declared, later adding a warning: "Everybody’s accountable. And we’re watching … the politicians, the media and all these rats out there."
The development marks a striking reversal for a political movement that has long positioned itself as the chief defender of free speech against the "woke mob." For years, conservative commentators, particularly hosts at Fox News, built a consistent narrative decrying cancel culture as an illiberal tool of the left used to silence dissent and ruin the lives of those with opposing viewpoints.
Now, critics argue that the principle is being selectively applied. The current push to have people fired for their speech—however abhorrent—suggests to some that the objection was never about the tactic itself, but rather who was being targeted.
It once again shows you the hypocrisy at Fox News.
