Leaving in September

After a distinguished 27-year career in television broadcasting, veteran sports anchor Brian Milam is signing off from WKYT in Lexington to embark on a new professional chapter. Milam, a familiar face to viewers across central Kentucky, has been a cornerstone of the station's sports coverage since 2010, skillfully guiding audiences through the triumphs and trials of local and state athletics. His journey at WKYT saw him rise from a weekend sports anchor to the pivotal role of Sports Director and eventually to the main news desk, where he succeeded the legendary Rob Bromley in 2017.

Throughout his tenure, Milam became known for his profound dedication to storytelling and his passion for highlighting the achievements of student-athletes. He consistently upheld WKYT's tradition of outstanding sports journalism, ensuring the coverage evolved with the changing media landscape while never losing its focus on the human element of the game. His commitment did not go unnoticed, establishing him as a trusted and dependable voice in Kentucky sports.

In a move that feels like a natural progression, Milam will become the new Communications and Media Relations Director for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), the governing body for high school sports across the state. "His passion for high school athletics and athletes is well known," noted KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett, referencing Milam's extensive prior work with the organization, including broadcasting state championship events. Milam's final day on the air at WKYT will be September 5th, marking the end of an era for the station and its viewers.
