Signing Off in New York

In a move highlighting a growing trend in local news, sports reporter Chrystal Stone has announced her departure from WNYT, the Hubbard Broadcasting-owned NBC affiliate in Albany, New York. Her exit marks the 13th time an on-air broadcast journalist has left the Capital Region market this year.

Stone, a Dallas native who joined the station nearly two years ago, shared the news on social media Monday.

“I’m officially wrapping up my time at WNYT in Albany,” she wrote. “It’s been a colorful ride full of growth, lessons and amazing memories. I’m beyond grateful for the people I’ve met and the incredible stories I’ve told along the way.”

While Stone did not specify her next career move, she mentioned she is looking forward to “recharging and exploring new opportunities ahead.”

Stone's departure is not an isolated event but part of a significant exodus of on-air talent from the Albany-Schenectady-Troy media market in 2025.

Earlier this summer, WNYT also saw the departures of Waneik Martinez and Tessa Bentulan. Rival station WTEN, the local ABC affiliate, recently said goodbye to reporters Ireland Walker and Trishna Begam, pointing to a notable pattern of turnover in the region's broadcast journalism landscape.
