Does That Matter Anymore?

An FTVLive reader sent this email about the Nexstar/Tegna deal and had an interesting question.

But, under the Trump FCC and DOJ, do you think the same rules and guidelines apply?

Here’s the email:

Here is something I have not seen mentioned yet regarding the purchase of Tegna. Price fixing for advertisers. The DOJ stepped in years ago when they found there was price fixing across companies, causing advertisers to have to pay inflated prices for advertising.  Nexstar (and several others) are still required to do mandatory anti-trust training yearly (done by an outside law firm) for everyone who works in their sales department.

Additionally,  Nexstar controls pricing for all of its JSA stations in markets where they have a duopoly.

And then you have the fact that they also 'own' the CW (which in many markets are under licensing agreements with a 'competitor' company. )

So, when Nexstar picks up Tegna and is operating nearly the whole market, who will keep them from price fixing and screwing over small local businesses in those markets?
