Sinclair to Merge with Tegna?

While it seems like a match made in the land of bad TV, could it really happen?

Sinclair floated a report claiming that it had made an offer to merge its broadcast TV business with its smaller rival Tegna.

While I would never say never, I’m fairly certain that this will not happen.

There are many reasons as to why, but the main reason is that Sinclair and Tegna's combined debt load, would make a merger nearly impossible.

Sinclair had roughly $4.11 billion in debt while Tegna had about $2.33 billion.

So, merging a company that would start out over $6 billion dollars in debt seems crazy, even by Tegna and Sinclair’s standards.

Also, as FTVLive FIRST reported, the Nexstar/Tegna deal is basically a done deal.

Although, I think with this Sinclair/Tegna merger being whispered about, it was the main reason that Nexstar decided to release the news about them having an agreement with Tegna.

Just saying…
