Motown Reporter Cleared in Investigation
/Hank Winchester, a well-known investigative reporter for Detroit's NBC affiliate, WDIV Local 4, has been cleared of all wrongdoing following a criminal investigation that began with a police raid on his home two months ago. WDIV is part of the Graham Media Group.
The investigation became public on June 13, when the Oakland County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Winchester's residence. At the time, sources reported that the accusations involved alleged unwanted sexual advances made toward a man during a massage. Authorities seized electronics from the home as part of their investigation.
Following the raid, Winchester was placed on administrative leave by the television station.
On Friday, August 15, Winchester's attorney, Todd Flood, announced that the investigation was over and that the reporter had been completely cleared of all charges. It is not yet known if Winchester's administrative leave from WDIV will be lifted.
Winchester released a statement expressing his relief and gratitude:
"I’m thankful this investigation is over. The allegations made against me were outrageous, unfounded and defamatory. Throughout my 24-year career in Detroit, my mission has always been to help the community I love, protect you from bad actors, and fight for justice. I will always fight for you—just as I’ve recently had to fight for myself. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has shown me tremendous support, especially my family and friends. The messages from so many of you greatly helped me through this incredibly difficult time."
