CBS to Launch New News Operation in Atlanta Next Month
On Saturday, August 16, WUPA (channel 69) will become the new CBS affiliate in Atlanta, taking over the affiliation from Gray Television's WANF.
The new "CBS Atlanta" will launch without a local news operation. While full newscasts are planned for a September debut, the station will begin providing local weather updates during CBS Morningsstarting Monday, August 18.
CBS has announced several key hires for the forthcoming news department. The senior leadership team, announced last week, includes Tom Canedo as president and general manager, Shawn Hoder as vice president of news, and Barbara Roeder as vice president of sales.
Additional newsroom leaders include:
Nichole Green, Assistant News Director, joining from CBS New York.
Lea-Anne Jackson, Creative Services Director, a three-decade veteran of the Atlanta market who has been with WUPA for the past five years.
Alex Sanz, Managing Editor, who previously worked in Atlanta for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Associated Press.
Troy Bridges has been hired as a meteorologist. A Georgia native and University of Georgia graduate, Bridges joins from the CBS-owned station in Detroit and has previous experience in Macon and Augusta.
