All About Me, Texas Edition
/With so many families in Texas, torn apart after so many have died and others still missing, that should be the focus of anyone working in TV in Texas right now.
KXAN Met Kristen Currie went on vacation while the search for bodies continues and weather events are not over.
I think when you sign up for this job, in a situation like this, your vacation is canceled.
But, Currie went on vacation. despite the fact that the flooding story was still very much in the news.
She also used her station branded social media to tell viewers that she and her boyfriend broke up, just before her vacation.
She writes, “…we were here in Destin without great internet and in & out of the water all day. I would try to resist looking at my phone… but the gravity of the disaster at home was hitting. And it consumed me.”
It consumed you, but yet you still went on vacation and went swimming.
She adds, “The fact that I’m here, in paradise, with those I love the most… and yet there are some people who I call neighbors, searching in the dark & debris for their loved ones.”
I have said this thousands of times, everyone is going through something. But, the social media post, on your station branded account comes off more than tone deaf.
In a follow up post, Currie writes, “But just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all who reached out,” adding “Your emails brought perspective. And your prayers do what prayers do - comforted me in this time of uneasiness, stress & difficulty.”
Make it all about you, but there are many others in Texas that should be the focus. Not you.
