Bumped Up in KC

KCTV5 has announced Lauren Magarino as its new evening news anchor, stepping into the role previously held by Carolyn Long, who retired on May 30 after nearly three decades with the station. Magarino will co-anchor the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts with Brad Stephens, and the 6 p.m. show alongside Zac Summers. She will also share anchoring duties for the 6:30 p.m. "First Warn 5 Weather Show."

Magarino, a Miami native, is no stranger to Missouri or Kansas City, having graduated from the University of Missouri where she began her broadcasting career as a reporter at KOMU. She joins KCTV5 from Scripps News, where she served as an anchor for national broadcasts in Atlanta and a national correspondent in Chicago. "Joining the KCTV5 newsroom is a full-circle moment," Magarino said, emphasizing her connection to the state that helped shape her journalistic skills.

According to KCTV5 News Director Josh Morgan, Magarino's character and talent make her a valuable addition to the team. "I can’t wait for the community to get to see just how much she cares about her work, her teammates, and the Kansas City area as a whole," Morgan stated. Magarino expressed her commitment to the viewers, stating, "One of my biggest priorities is to center our viewers in all that we do. It's about focusing on the information you need to know, asking questions you want answers to and sharing your stories authentically." Having been with KCTV5 since late February, Magarino will not only anchor newscasts but also continue to report on impactful stories across the community.
