Streaming the Way

Many years ago, FTVLive wrote many stories about how streaming was the future and how it would takeover viewership.

Well, the future is now.

Viewers watched more television via streaming services than they did through cable and broadcast networks in the month of May according to Nielsen. This is the first time (but not the last) that has happened over a full month.

While streaming has been gaining on TV and cable for years, it was the old people who helped push streaming to victory lane.

Since 2023, viewers over 65 are the fastest-growing age group for watching YouTube off a television set.

Young people have been in on the streaming game for years, but now that the old people have also joined in, maybe station-ownership groups will really dive in.

Over the past year, you have heard media companies talk about how they were going to prioritize streaming. It was certainly showing up late to the party, but maybe they are finally getting it.

FTVLive has told you how we cut the cord decades ago and don’t watch any local television. I have been a YouTube Premium members for years. I don’t subscribe to any TV services like YouTubeTV, or DirecTV streaming services. I only watch YouTube.
