Signing Off in the Big D

After 12 years serving North Texas viewers, including nearly a decade as its chief meteorologist, Scott Padgett is set to depart KTVT (CBS Texas) to join the CBS New York's First Alert Weather team. His last day on air at CBS Texas was yesterday, with his new role in New York commencing June 30.

News of Padgett's impending departure was first reported by FTVLive on April 3.

Throughout his tenure at CBS Texas, Padgett became a familiar and trusted face for viewers navigating the region's often unpredictable and severe weather. With almost three decades of forecasting experience under his belt, he has guided communities through a myriad of challenging events, from hurricanes and tornadoes to significant flooding, ice storms, and broader climate shifts.

"We are thrilled to see Scott transition to CBS New York. We thank him for his outstanding contributions and wish him the very best," said Meagan Harris, news director of CBS Texas, acknowledging his significant impact on the station.

Padgett himself expressed enthusiasm for his next chapter. "I am excited to join CBS New York’s First Alert Weather team and fulfill my lifelong dream of forecasting in New York," he stated. While looking forward to the new opportunity, he also reflected on his time in Texas. "While it is bittersweet to leave CBS Texas, I am grateful for the incredible support from my colleagues and viewers over the past 12 years."

His move is also eagerly anticipated by his future colleagues. Sarah Burke, news director of CBS New York, commented, "Scott’s expertise and engaging personality will be a great addition to the First Alert Weather team in New York. We look forward to him joining the team."
