DC Anchor Talks about That Night

The clip above is from WRC’s (DC) newscast on Thanksgiving Day 2024. The show was anchored by Leon Harris and it was obvious to viewers that Harris was having trouble talking.

Months after the incident, WRC announced that Harris was gone from the station.

Harris spoke to former CNN host Daryn Kagan about that night. He said that he had a meal and a “couple glasses of wine” before going on the air.

“I ended up drinking between shows, and I went on the air,” Harris shared. “I was more affected than I thought I was. Even at the time, I felt like I was perfectly fine.”

Harris has talked about his past alcohol issues and said that he could no longer drink the way he used to without negative repercussions.

Talking about that night, he says, “People were calling. They were thinking that I was having a stroke, It was the most embarrassing thing that has ever, ever happened to me.”

He was pulled from the air and ordered to go to rehab.

He still ended up parting ways with WRC.
