Out the Door in San Antonio

For the past 30 years, Mario Orellana had walked into work at Graham Media’s KSAT in San Antonio.

He started as an intern and worked his way up to News Director.

Now, the station says he’s leaving in early May and a search is on for his replacement.

"Career Update: After a nearly 30-year career at KSAT, I have decided to step down as News Director effective May 5th. Serving in this role has been my greatest honor, and I am deeply grateful to have worked alongside so many talented journalists."

Sources at the station tell FTVLive that the staff was taken by surprise. Some believe that Orellana himself was surprised.

He is being kicked upstairs to a corporate recruiting role, but at least some think, this is not a job he wanted.

One insider thinks this move as Sean McLaughlin’s fingerprints all over it. McLaughlin is Graham’s VP of News. He was brought in after he help crater Scripps, before that company let him go.
