A New ND at the No. 1 Station in the No. 1 Market
/John Antonio has been appointed vice president of news at ABC7/WABC-TV New York, effective April 29, 2025. He will report to Marilu Galvez, president and general manager of WABC-TV.
Antonio will oversee the Eyewitness News team at ABC7, which is recognized as the leading source for local news in New York and the most-watched television station in the country. His appointment marks a return to the station, where he previously held roles as managing editor and executive producer for Eyewitness News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Prior to his new role, Antonio served as senior vice president of Programming for CNN/U.S. in Atlanta, where he directed 55 hours of live television weekly. He played a key role in coverage of major events, including the January 6 insurrection, the COVID-19 pandemic, mass shootings, the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, and multiple hurricanes and wildfires. His work also contributed to award-winning coverage of the Arab Spring, the Ukraine-Russia war, and the Derek Chauvin trial following the killing of George Floyd. Additionally, Antonio was involved in election coverage for presidential and midterm races.
Galvez praised Antonio’s leadership experience and industry knowledge, stating that his expertise will help enhance the station’s success. Antonio expressed enthusiasm about returning to WABC-TV, highlighting his eagerness to lead the Eyewitness News team in producing high-quality news content.
