In a striking development in one of Iowa's most perplexing cold cases, new details have surfaced about Jodi Huisentruit's disappearance nearly 30 years ago. Huisentruit, a beloved news anchor, went missing on her way to work on June 27, 1995, sparking a mystery that has captivated the public ever since. Her case officially turned to tragedy when she was declared dead in 2001, though police efforts to find her killer have never waned.

At the heart of the investigation is John Vansice, a longtime person of interest who always maintained his innocence. For decades, Vansice lived in Phoenix, Arizona, where he reportedly relocated after Huisentruit's disappearance. In a court hearing on Monday, it was revealed that Vansice recently passed away. This revelation has ignited questions about the possible release of a key search warrant related to the case.

The hearing centered on a 2017 search warrant for two vehicles owned by Vansice, with the defense fighting for its unsealing. The push to release the documents was spearheaded by private investigator Steve Ridge, who once led the TV consulting firm Magid. Ridge had built a relationship with Vansice during his time in Arizona, visiting him multiple times in his quest for answers.

"I don’t know why, when we have a difficult case, that it makes any bit of sense to open up these records that law enforcement are telling us will hinder their investigation," a state representative stated during the hearing.
