Bye-Bye in the Bay

After an illustrious career spanning more than 40 years, Bill Jartz has announced his retirement from WBAY (Green Bay). Known for his booming laugh, tireless work ethic, and deep connection to the community, Bill has become a beloved icon in Northeast Wisconsin. His departure marks the end of an era not only for WBAY but also for the viewers who have come to trust and adore him.

Jartz’s journey began in Clintonville, where he earned All-State recognition in high school football before attending Northwestern University on an athletic scholarship. After graduating with a degree in journalism in 1980, he began his broadcasting career as a sports anchor in Wausau. Joining WBAY in 1983 as a sports reporter, Jartz’s talent and passion led him to become Sports Director in 1993. From covering Green Bay’s Super Bowl XXXI victory to stepping into the evening news anchor role alongside Cami Rapson in 1998, his versatility and dedication have defined his career.

Beyond the newsroom, Jartz’s impact resonates deeply within the community. Known for his volunteerism, he has supported countless causes, earning accolades such as the Heart of Gold Lifetime Achievement Award and the Governor’s Service Award for Volunteer of the Year. As a longtime voice of Lambeau Field and a Packers Board member, Jartz plans to stay connected with his roots, even as he steps away from the anchor desk.

Reflecting on his career, Hartz expressed gratitude to his colleagues and viewers. “I tried my best, and I hope I served you well,” he shared. His final broadcast is set for May 23.
