The Fear Mongering Weatherman
/“Will You Die Today.”
That is how WOWK (Charleston, WV) Morning Weatherman Bryan Hughes started out his social media post.
It was the biggest fear mongering posts, since we heard about the people eating the cats and dogs in Ohio.
Clearly, Hughes was thirsty for social media engagement when he made the post.
Also, it should be pointed out that this severe weather he was posting about that will kill people, was not even in his viewing area.
Many people called Hughes out for his awful post, and that included WBMA (Birmingham) top Met James Spann. But, that didn’t stop Hughes from doubling down.
Another TV Met told FTVLive after seeing Hughes post, “The goal of meteorologist is to never scare people, rather making them aware. Saying something like this is the exact opposite of what we all do and preach.”
As Hughes continued to get roasted for his straight up fear mongering post, he finally pulled it down. I don’t know if that was his decision, WOWK’s management decision, or Nexstar, who owns the station?
You can hope that Hughes learned a lesson and won’t try this stunt again.
Only time will tell.
