Miami Station to Debut AR Set

WFOR CBS Miami plans to debut its new augmented reality and virtual reality studio on Sunday.

The station aims to incorporate this technology into its sports and weather reporting, beginning with a demonstration led by sports anchor Mike Cugno. This marks the station's entry into using AR/VR tools for broadcast journalism.

Later on the same evening, chief meteorologist Ivan Cabrera will use the AR/VR studio for live weather updates during the 11:00 PM newscast.

WFOR’s weather team is set to use AR/VR technology for daily forecasts on weekdays. The station describes the move as part of an effort to enhance its storytelling and viewing experience.

This launch marks CBS Miami as the sixth station within CBS News and Stations to adopt AR/VR technology. Network executives describe the initiative as an immersive approach aimed at engaging viewers more effectively. However, the broader implications and reception of this shift in broadcast journalism remain to be seen.
