Alabama Sports Journalist Killed in Apparent Murder-Suicide

The journalism community is mourning the loss of one of its own. Christina Chambers, a veteran sports reporter who spent over a decade covering the sidelines of the South, was found dead Tuesday morning in what investigators are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

Hoover Police responded to a residence on Highland Manor Court just after 9:00 a.m. local time following a 911 call from a family member. Inside, officers discovered the bodies of Chambers and her husband, both deceased from gunshot wounds.

In a heartbreaking detail that has shaken local newsrooms, a 3-year-old child was found inside the home unharmed.

Chambers was a familiar face to viewers across Alabama and Georgia. Her career was a roadmap of the regional sports circuit:

  • WBRC (Birmingham): Served as a pillar of the sports team from 2015 to 2021.

  • WAKA (Montgomery): Reporter and Anchor.

  • WLTZ (Columbus): Where she began her broadcasting journey.

Most recently, Chambers returned to her roots as a freelancer for the 2025 football season, continuing to mentor students and young athletes through her work at Thompson High School.

While the Hoover Police Department has stated there is "no ongoing threat to the public," the impact on the tight-knit world of sports journalism is immense. Chambers was known for her "extensive sports background" and a professional versatility that saw her move seamlessly between local news desks and regional sports networks.

She is survived by her young son. Arrangements and memorials from her former stations are expected to be announced in the coming days as the industry grapples with the loss of a dedicated storyteller.
