As CBS implements significant layoffs, cutting approximately 100 staffers including contributor Lisa Ling, an extraordinary expense for new CBS News boss Bari Weiss is causing internal stir.

Insiders report that Weiss, who took over the news division in early October after Paramount's acquisition of her Free Press Substack, has a security detail costing the company an estimated $10,000 per day.

The protection, described as an "unprecedented" detail involving eight bodyguards and a motorcade of SUVs, is especially controversial given the ongoing staff cuts. Weiss, who has minimal news-division experience and is known as a staunch Zionist, is presumed to require the heavy security following the assassination of fellow media figure Charlie Kirk.
