Back in February of 2024, FTVLive posted a patron story with this headline.

In that story from early 2024, FTVLive wrote,

“Over a month ago, a source told FTVLive that Perry Sook was sick and dealing with a medical issue.

We spent a few weeks talking to people and never confirmed what the source told us.

While we tried to track the story, we never nailed it down and basically forgot about it.

That was until yesterday when a story came out that the Nexstar board of directors announced that they have decided that separating the jobs of chairman and CEO would be a good idea, but it won’t be implemented until founder Perry Sook leaves the company.

Sook is signed on as Nexstar's chairman and CEO until March of 2026. That is over two years away, so why was the Nexstar board talking about succession now?”

Now, nearly two years later, Sook admitted that he was battling cancer a couple of years ago, and had undergone heart surgery.

In a story by the Capitol Forum, they write, ook in 2023 was diagnosed with a type of neck cancer and underwent heart surgery that same year, said an adviser who spoke to him recently about it and a source close to the Nexstar board.

“Perry said 2023 was the worst year of his life,” the adviser said, adding that Sook himself confirmed the health issues.

“He is recovering and very active,” the source close to the board said.

As FTVLive told you Sook signed a contract extension with Nexstar which takes him to 2029.
