Well Deserved

Today Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJLA) will recognized longtime CBS Los Angeles anchor Pat Harvey with its prestigious Local Legacy Award and established a new scholarship in her name, celebrating her remarkable three-decade-plus career and lasting contributions to journalism and the community.

The honors will be announced at NABJLA’s 45th Scholarship & Awards Soiree, where two college students will receive the inaugural NABJLA Pat Harvey Scholarship. The scholarship's launch was supported by a $5,000 donation from CBS and is designed to be an endowed fund to support future generations of aspiring Black journalists, emphasizing the importance of diversity in newsrooms nationwide.

NABJLA President Shar Jossell praised Harvey's enduring influence, stating, "This recognition reflects Pat’s extraordinary legacy as a journalist and community leader whose work has uplifted, inspired and paved the way for generations."

Beyond her on-air excellence, Harvey is widely celebrated for her active role as a mentor and her fierce advocacy for newsroom diversity.

In response to the honor, Harvey highlighted her commitment to paying it forward.

"Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by a deep love for storytelling and a commitment to giving voice to the voiceless," Harvey said. "To be recognized by NABJLA and to have a scholarship in my name that will help young journalists rise – especially those who reflect the communities we serve – is profoundly humbling. This honor isn’t just about my journey; it’s about opening doors for the next generation to walk through and thrive."
