This Photographer Gets the Gift of Life

How cool is this…

In a remarkable act of selflessness, a colleague at WBZ-TV, the CBS-owned-and-operated (O&O) station in Boston, is donating a kidney to a coworker, transforming a professional connection into a life-saving bond.

Andrea Courtois, an assignment editor at WBZ, is set to donate her kidney to Jared Higginbotham, a veteran news photographer at the station who has been waiting for a transplant. WBZ is a key local affiliate in the national CBS portfolio.

Higginbotham is a beloved member of the WBZ team, known for years of capturing stories across the New England region. Upon learning she was a compatible match, Courtois made the profound decision to become his donor, embodying an extraordinary spirit of generosity.

The transplant surgery is scheduled for this week. Both Courtois and Higginbotham have agreed to share their experience, offering a rare and intimate look at the power of human connection and kindness within the workplace.

“This is more than a medical match — it’s a story of friendship, selflessness, and the kind of quiet heroism that often goes unseen,” said Johnny Green, regional president and general manager for CBS Boston and CBS New York.
