Anchor Shakeup in Birmingham

WVTM is implementing changes to its weekday anchor lineup, primarily affecting the station’s early and late evening newscasts.

Carla Wade will shift from the morning show to co-anchor the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts. She will join a team that includes Brittany Decker and Guy Rawlings.

The evening team will also add Michal Higdon, who recently joined the station. Higdon will serve as the Breaking News and Traffic Anchor for all early and late evening newscasts. Higdon previously worked as an evening anchor in Charleston, South Carolina, and is a graduate of the University of Florida.

Wade has been with the morning show since 2020 and previously worked as an anchor and reporter in Las Vegas, Dallas, and Oklahoma City. She is a three-time regional Emmy Award winner.

News Director Kerri Sutton stated that the changes represent a "commitment to delivering trusted news to Central Alabama" and that the new evening team will "elevate our coverage."

In the morning slot, Sarah Killian has been promoted to co-anchor all weekday morning newscasts alongside Scott Carpenter.

The station did not talk very much about those that were demoted.
