You Know That's Kind Of a Demotion, Right?

Many TV News Reporters continue to bust their ass, hoping that one day they will get promoted to the anchor desk.

At Scripps-owned KGUN (Tucson), Anchor Denelle Veselik is being moved back to Reporter.

As Scripps has eliminated Anchors at many of its stations, some are kicked to the curb. Others, like Veselik are knocked back into the Reporter ranks.

But Scripps gives them the title “Executive Reporter” to try and soften the blow.

In a social media post, Veselik had this to say about her new role at KGUN.

“….I was presented with the opportunity to step away from the camera and take on the role of Executive Reporter, where I would lead a team of around 15 reporters. I had always wanted to be a teacher, and this opportunity felt like the perfect fit. While I didn’t anticipate this change coming when it did, that’s just life, isn’t it? Sometimes you have to go along for the ride.”

It sounds like she’s upset about leaving the anchor desk, but she is still happy to have a job.

Is an Anchor really prepared to teach young, inexperienced MMJs on how to do their job? Also, isn’t this what EPs, Assistant News Directors and News Directors supposed to do?

Anyway, it is good to see that Scripps didn’t just kick Veselik to the curb, like they have done with many.

Hopefully, she enjoys her new gig. We’ll check back in. a year or two to see if she’s still at KGUN.
