Signing Off in Buffalo
/Back when I was a kid, I watched Don Postles on WKBW Eyewitness News. In those days, WKBW had one of the highest rated newscasts in the country.
WKBW was sold to Granite Broadcasting and the station was drven into the ground.
Postles had left WKBW before the sale and crossed the street to WIVB. That station became the No. 1 station in the market and is now owned by Nexstar.
It battles back and forth with WGRZ for No. 1 and WKBW, now owned by Scripps is stuck in last place.
In a couple of weeks, Don Postles will anchor his last newscast at WIVB. He’s signing off after 50+ years in the business. "After 52 years in TV news, it's time to hop on my horse and ride into the sunset," Postles said.
Buffalo TV news has fallen over the years. With owners like Scripps, Nexstar and Tegna, it’s more about making money and pleasing shareholders. There was a time when journalism was all that mattered, but those times are long gone.
Don Postles has seen both.
