Love the Drake

Okay, if you’re a Seinfeld fan, you totally got the headline. If you’re not a fan, it went right over your head.

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that former WYMT (Hazard, Kentucky) Drake Foley has landed a new gig.

Foley was part of the Gray Television layoffs; he lost his first job in TV news after just 5 months.

We were happy to report that Hearst’s KHBS/KHOG (Ft. Smith) has hired Foley to do weather and reporting.

In yesterday's story, we told Drake to reach out and that we would give him a few bucks to help find a suit coat that fits a bit better, and viewers could see his hands.

After our story, a few people reached out, including a former network anchor, who also wanted to help Drake out.

So, I want to tell Drake to feel free to reach out, and I will pass along some money from me, plus a couple of others. We all could have used some help when getting into the business and this is just a way to help. I promise, Drake, if you reach out, I will not post anything about it on FTVLive and you should not feel the least bit bad about getting some help.

Then, years from now, when you’re at the network, you can help out some kid just getting started. Don’t look at it as a handout, Drake; look at it as a loan with 0% interest that you only pay back by helping someone else.

Here’s the email from the network anchor who wants to remain anonymous. Although, I do have permission to tell Drake who they are.

Scott —

Happy Thanksgiving from New York City. Long time.  Hope all’s well.   I just read the Drake Foley post you put on FTV.  I love it.  Love that he didn’t give up.  Love that you helped him.  Love that another ND stepped in to give him the good-faith shot he deserves.  … And I really love the simple, humble post he put up to announce his new role.  It’s all about the viewer and the new community he is joining.  No self-serving drivel or diatribe. Refreshing to see.

Where would any of us be without people who gave us a helping hand or a second shot?  I’m in for $250 for a suit, moving expenses etc….whatever he needs.  Only caveat is that it’s anonymous please.  So let me know your Venmo — and I’ll get it to you and you can get it to him.

Have a great holiday season.  Tell Drake, I’m rooting for him.
