Nexstar's Sidecar to Buy Motown Station

CBS owns the current CW station in Detroit, but CBS announced that they are dropping the CW affiliation at all their owned stations when the contract comes up.

Basically, this all came to a head when Nexstar decided to cut a deal with the Saudi backed LIV Golf tour to air their tournaments. LIV Golf is locked in a lawsuit with the PGA Tour and CBS has a long relationship with the PGA. So CBS has decided not to air any of the LIV tournaments on their CW stations.

This all means that when CBS dumps the CW in Motown, Nexstar does not have an outlet to run the CW programming.

So, Mission Broadcasting, a sidecar of Nexstar has decided to buy WADL in Motown.

WADL is owned by Kevin Adell, who is now making out by having Nexstar really in need his station. Terms of the transaction have yet to be disclosed, but my guess is Kevin Adell made out very well in his investment.
