I Thought this was a 1st Amendment Case?

When Dominion Voting Systems filed a $1.6 billion dollar lawsuit against Fox News, the network claimed that they would viciously defend themselves against these “false claims.”

As the case drew closer to trial, Fox News said this was about the 1st amendment and they would fight and prove that in court.

So here you have the most dominant cable news channel in history, about to take the gloves off and fight for freedom of the press and the 1st amendment. This was a case for all media companies and Fox News was going to bat for all of them.

But then something happened.

On the first day of the trial, before a single witness was called. Before Fox News head Rupert Murdoch took the stand to defend his company and media outlets everywhere.

Before Sean Hannity went to the courthouse to help media companies battle tooth and nail for the 1st amendment. Before Tucker Carlson told the jury that the election was rigged and the people raiding the U.S. Capitol were just tourists.

Fox News settled.

Not for 10 million dollars.

Not even for 100 million dollars.

Not even half a billion dollars.

Nope, Fox News settled the case, the case that was based on the 1st amendment and crazy false claims for over three quarters of a billion dollars.

The CEO of Dominion said that not only did they pay out one of the biggest settlements in U.S. history, they also admitted they were wrong. “Fox has admitted to telling lies,” John Poulos, Dominion CEO, said at a news conference after the trial ended.

How did Fox News spin this?

Well, they settled this case for you, the American people.

"This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards,” the network said. “We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”

“The highest journalistic standards,” how did lightning not strike the building when they issued that statement?

As for the country moving forward, it never stopped going that direction. Most people didn’t give a shit about this trial and only were passively interested on more of an entertainment level.

As for the media, I thought Fox was fighting for all of us.

Remember, this was all about the first amendment.

I guess that was complete bullshit.

Tonight, you will turn on Fox News and it will be like nothing has changed. Sean Hannity will attack Joe Biden. Tucker Carlson will tell viewers how the left wants to make all your kids gay, and not a damn thing will change.

If Fox News were really about the “highest journalistic standards,” they would have admitted at the beginning they fucked up.

They could have said, you know what? We were wrong, we’re sorry for pushing this lie on our channel, and we are viciously dealing with those who did it.

What this case showed the media and everyone else is you can push a lie, and as long as you have enough money, you can buy your way out of being completely destroyed in a court of law.

1st amendment, my ass.
