Troubled Motown Station Brings in Outsider

It is never a good thing when the company brings in an outsider from another station to try and fix your issues.

CBS Detroit has been dealing with a number of issues since they launched a new product, and it appears the mothership is growing tired of the slow progress.

News Director Paul Pytlowany sent an internal email to the staff, informing them that KPIX (San Francisco) GM Scott Warren is flying into Motown to offer his help.

FTVLive obtained a copy of the email.

Team,

Scott Warren, President, and General Manager of KPIX in San Francisco, will be visiting the station on Monday night and will be here through Wednesday morning.

Scott is here for several reasons.  Not only does he want to see our unique operation in person, Scott will be here to offer his insight on how his team solo anchors shows.

He is also instrumental in deploying the 70/30 bootcamps across the station group.

Below are a few key meetings that we need to put on our perspective schedules.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

  •  10am AM news concludes, have 2 hours before 12n news starts

  • Meeting in Large Conference Room (LCR) to discuss how solo shows come together (attendees: Scott, Brian, Paul, Matt Dombard/Ops Mgr, Ken Beck/EP, Lisa Palmer/AND, Matt Triplett/Managing Editor)

  • 1pm

  • Set Blocking in newsroom (attendees: Scott, Brian, Paul, John, Matt Dombard)

  • 2pm

When the company is sending in an outsider the week before Christmas, this isn’t a good sign.

I expect you will see even more changes at CBS’s Motown station in the new year.

Stay tuned…
