Signing Off in Norfolk
/Longtime WTRK Anchor Barbara Ciara is bidding farewell to her illustrious 50-year career in journalism.
The Managing Editor and Evening Anchor at WTKR has decided to embark on a new chapter in her life, celebrating this milestone by refocusing her goals and setting her sights on world travel alongside her newly engaged fiancé.
Ciara's journey in journalism began with the publication of her first news article in a college newspaper. This modest start ignited a remarkable career that spanned print and broadcast media, and today, she leaves behind a legacy that has significantly impacted the industry.
Ciara worked at 3 different stations in the Hampton Roads. "Not many people in this industry have the opportunity to work at three network affiliates without changing zip codes," Ciara noted. "I consider myself blessed to have had a challenging career without sacrificing my connection to the community."
Adam Chase, the President and General Manager of WTKR, expressed his admiration for Ciara's contributions, stating, "Barbara's leadership, presence, and legacy will impact our community commitment for years to come. Her panache, sharp wit, and contagious laugh will be missed in our newsroom."
In addition to her illustrious career, Barbara Ciara served as President of the National Association of Black Journalists from 2007 to 2009.
