Always Need Context

The Twitter account of BNONews posted the video you have likely seen of the 3 police officers beating a man in a parking lot.

WEYI (Saginaw, Michigan) Anchor Dave Bondy posted a reply that the video needs context.

The BNONews post said, “Video captures 3 Arkansas police officers beating a man outside convenience store in Crawford County.”

I think everyone can agree the police are beating the man.

Some took issue with Bondy’s post:

Is Bondy trying to imply that there might be a reason for these officers to beat a man that is on the ground and being held down by 3 officers?

Police officers are trained to subdue the suspect and handcuff him. As a police officer, there are times when you might need to punch or strike a suspect to try and neutralize a situation.

But, once that suspect is no longer pushing back, you stop that action. Cops are not trained to beat a man that is not putting up a fight.

By the way, we should point out that Dave Bondy blocks FTVLive on Twitter and it was only through good investigative journalism that we were able to gain access to his account.

Or, maybe we just logged on using our Twitter burner account.
