You Forgot The Other Side of the Story

Sinclair’s KATV (Little Rock) posted a story in which Little Rock City Mayor, Frank Scott Jr said that he was being politically attacked by a guy named Jimmie Cavin.

The Sinclair station reported that the mayor claims that Cavin is accusing the city's administration of misusing funds delegated to the city for business purposes.

KATV writes in the story, “In a statement on Scott's social media account, the mayor said he "will not stand idly by while lies and false narratives are created by a politically-charged effort to turn back the clock against the progress the city is making".”

The story is still posted on the station’s website as of the time of this posting.

While the story has the Little Rock Mayor making accusations against Jimmie Cavin, what the story does not have, is any reaction or sound bites from Cavin.

It would seem that if you have a political fight between two people, you would want to get the sides of both people.

Jimmie Cavin wondered the same thing and he placed a call to KATV News Director Amy Sullivan and he recorded the call.

Sullivan admitted that the “young woman” that wrote the article did not think she needed to get both sides of the story.

Sullivan admitted that it was not good journalism and tried to make excuses of the person that wrote the story was young.

Sullivan did apologize, but what I find interesting is two things.

First, why is the story still posted without at least being updated?

Second, why do you have people writing stories that don’t understand how journalism is supposed to work?

Anyway, here is Cavin’s video of his phone call with KATV’s News Director.
