Slurring Anchor Leaving the Station

Heather Kovar made news when she went on the air at WRGB (Albany) and seemed disheveled and was slurring her words.

The Sinclair station said that they were suspending her while they conduct an investigation.

It really does seem to make a difference either way since Kovar says she has told the station she is not renewing her contract which ends later this month.

Kovar said that she had "returned early from family leave following my dad’s death. On Friday, I notified the station I would not be renewing my contract which expires July 31. Saturday I was scheduled to work the early morning 6 a.m. shift and the evening shift. I was sleep-deprived and exhausted."

Kovar did post on social media about her marathon shift that was set for last weekend. The post was made at 3:49 AM on Saturday.

Clearly something was wrong and Kovar blames her behavior on lack of sleep and exhaustion. Many viewers thought she was drunk.

We might never know what really happened, but I’m still shocked that she was allowed on the air In that condition. Surely people interacted with her before the newscast started.

While Sinclair investigates, it is more than likely we are not going to see Kovar back on the air at WRGB. But, let’s hope the Sinclair investigation finds out why she was let on the air in the first place?

As for Kovar, she has been through a lot. She lost her dad and then was asked to work a marathon shift over the weekend. How is any manager at Sinclair okay with an Anchor working the morning shift and then being asked to work the evening and late shift and then asked to turn around and do it again the next day?

I’m not here making excuses for Heather Kovar, but come on! You have to treat your employees better than this.

Kovar says she is done at the end of the month, if you ask us, she shouldn’t be the only one leaving the station.

Just saying….
