Questionable Hire at CBS News?

Yesterday, an op-ed piece appeared in the LA Times and it brings up some good points about CBS News and the latest contributor that they have hired.

From mid-December 2018 through early March 2020, Mick Mulvaney, a former member of Congress from South Carolina, served as President Trump’s acting chief of staff.

On Mulvaney’s watch, the White House took a wrecking ball to checks and balances by vowing to defy all congressional subpoenas.

On Mulvaney’s watch, the Trump administration launched an unconstitutional attack against the process to conduct a fair census.

On Mulvaney’s watch, at least 25 administration officials received security clearances that should not have been granted based on the recommendations of intelligence officials.

On Mulvaney’s watch, Trump ignored numerous warnings from health experts about the severity of the coronavirus. More than 970,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

And yet, in spite of this record, CBS News made the decision to reward Mulvaney with a gig as a paid contributor.

You can read the full op-ed here but the piece makes a very good point.

It is as if no matter how bad many of these people acted in Washington and no matter how they tried to hurt our country for their own gain, there is a news outlet that will give them a job.

This is true on both sides of the political aisle and it’s disgusting.

Think about it, if Marjorie Taylor Greene left Congress today, cable news networks would be fighting each other to hire her as a contributor.

I can assure you when her time is done in DC, you will see her on a cable news channel shortly after that.

She isn’t the only one, but she is a good example.

News outlets don’t care who they hire, they just ask themselves, will this person bring eyeballs to our network? If the answer is yes, they’re hired.

Mick Mulvaney tried to silence the press, he tried to hide important information from the American people and CBS News is now paying him.

Shame on them.

It should be pointed out that Fox News did a story on CBS hiring Mulvaney and pointed out that “Liberals” were not happy with the hire.

I would think that Journalists everywhere would question the hiring of a man that tried to cut the press off at the knees, not just liberals.

Then again, in that same Fox News story, they said that Susan Zirinisky was the CBS News president and CEO. She hasn’t had that job since April of last year.

You would have thought they already knew that.
