Moving Over to Sports
/Some in the WDBJ (Roanoke) newsroom were a bit surprised by a recent hire made by the station.
Travis Wells, WDBJ’s longtime Sports Director resigned a few months ago to take a job outside of TV news at Virginia Tech.
Insiders tell FTVLive that the station’s Weekend Sports Anchor is also leaving the station at the end of his contract.
The station posted the sports opening and word is that it generated quite a bit of interest, with a number of sports journalists applying for the job.
On Friday, the staff was told that Weekend NEWS Anchor Brittany Morgan would be the new Sports Anchor at the station.
Insiders say that Morgan has never anchored a sportscast at the station, but she has the co-anchored Friday night football show. She also worked as a sideline reporter for high school football in her last job. But, that is a long way from Sports Director.
After hearing that Morgan was getting the gig, one news manager was overheard saying, “Does Brittany actually know sports?”.
She might not know sports very well, but she was a performer at Medieval Times, so that has to be worth something.
Right?
