Gone in OKC

Less than a year ago, KWTV took longtime Anchor Kelly Ogle off the station’s 5 PM newscast.

At the time, Ogle claimed that this was his idea.

This is what he told viewers as to him leaving the newscast:

“For a while now, I've been itching to have a little more time to report, to follow up on some of the stories I've covered over the last 35 years and see whatever happened to them. Also, to take you to some of my favorite places in Oklahoma.

It's difficult to do that kind of reporting when you're anchoring three newscasts a day.

So starting Tuesday, our buddy Karl Torp will hold down the 5 p.m. newscast with Amanda and David, and I'll continue to be here at 6 and 10.”

Yesterday, the staff at KWTV got a memo informing them that after today, Ogle’s days anchoring the 6 and 10PM newscasts are now over.

It is a good bet that Ogle will also claim that this was his idea.

But, let’s look closer at this.

The Ogle name in Oklahoma City TV news is huge. There are a number of Ogle’s (all the same family) delivering news in OKC.

Kelly Ogle has been doing so for over 2 decades and now he is coming off the anchor desk. In the middle of January, on a Thursday, with little notice and just before the very important Feb book gets started?

He can claim it was his idea, but there is no way I’m buying that?

His ego is way too big to leave the desk like this.

Just saying….

Lastly, let’s hope that Karl Torp, who is replacing Ogle, leaves his personal opinion out of the newscasts.

Something Kelly Ogle did not do.
