Gray Television President Hilton Howell made his second visit to WGCL in Atlanta.

WGCL is the longtime struggling Meredith station that Gray is buying from Meredith as they punt on local TV.

During his visit, Howell made some very interesting and juicy statements, and one included FTVLive.

Howell told the staff at WGCL that he keeps up with what’s going on within the news business and that includes logging onto FTVLive. This guy is a smart man.

He also said that one day, the station might decide to “fire CBS.” While discussing rebranding opportunities once Gray acquires Meredith. Howell said he believes you can brand outside the network and find better opportunities to focus on local instead of relying on the networks for content.

With the TV is going, we agree with him on this statement.

The good news for WGCL is Howell told the staff that he hopes to pump more money into the struggling station as more money is removed from market leader WSB via Apollo.

As the hedge fund continues to gut the Cox stations, Howell believes it will create an opening to compete.

Again, we agree with his comments on that.
