Back in May, FTVLive FIRST told you how Nexstar’s WCIA (Champaign, IL) faced community backlash for the for they covered a police-involved shooting in which two officers were shot and one of those officers died.

Advertisers pulled spots, towns asked them to stay away and viewers lit up the station’s phone lines and email.

The News Director was exited from the station and the GM soon followed as Nexstar tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Yesterday, nearly two months after the station screwed up, they did something they should have done weeks ago.

They apologized for their coverage of the fallen officer.

The very late apology comes as new management tries to clean up the mess from the pervious bosses.

WCIA is a tarnished station now and it may take them years to recover its reputation.

It appears that this apology is the first step in what will be a very long journey.
