WDIV (Detroit) General Manager Marla Drutz is going out a lot more professionally than April Moss.

Drutz, a key figure in Detroit broadcasting for almost four decades, is retiring from the top job at Detroit’s NBC affiliate later this year or early next.

“You know when it’s time to move on to something else,” she said Monday, “and this allows time for a succession plan. I’ve seen too many sudden transitions, and I’d rather not see that here.

"I’ve loved every day of my years at WDIV and that’s why this is a tough decision. However, I’ve worked in local television for 35-plus years and I know it’s time for me to write a fresh and different chapter. I am ready for a new adventure that includes travel and a warmer winter climate. This will also give me a chance to spread my wings within the volunteer community."

Drutz said Monday she plans to remain in Detroit, although she may find a warmer outpost for the winters.

Can you blame her?
